IPTV on Android TV, Google TV and Android boxes
Android TV gives you the widest choice of IPTV players and the simplest installation: everything comes from Google Play. This guide covers Android TV and Google TV devices, TVs that run Android, and standalone Android boxes.
What you need
- An Android TV or Google TV device, an Android-based television, or an Android box, signed in to a Google account

- A stable internet connection; most boxes and many TVs have an Ethernet port
Cheap generic Android boxes sometimes ship without Google Play or with an outdated Android version. They can still work with a player installed from a file, but a device with official Google Play is far easier to keep updated.
Step-by-step setup on Android TV / Google TV
- Open Google Play on your Android TV, Google TV or Android box and search for a compatible IPTV player.
- Install the player and open it from your apps list.
- Choose the login method that matches your setup details and enter them carefully.
- Wait for the content list to download; larger lists can take a minute on first load.
- Pick a live channel or on-demand category and check that playback starts.
Tips for the best experience
- Choose a player with guide support. Look for a player that downloads the electronic programme guide automatically; it makes live channels much easier to browse.
- Set the display to match the content. In the device display settings, enable "match content frame rate" if available to avoid judder on live sport and films.
- Trim the channel list. Hide categories you never use and set favourites; large lists load faster and are easier to navigate with a remote.
- Keep the device awake during setup. The first guide download can take a few minutes; if the device sleeps midway, the guide may look empty until the next refresh.
Common questions
Is Google TV the same as Android TV?
Google TV is the newer interface on top of Android TV. For IPTV players there is no practical difference; both use Google Play.
My box has no Google Play. What now?
You can usually install a player from an APK file using a file manager, but you will need to update it manually. If you are buying new, choose a certified Android TV or Google TV device instead.
Can I use the same login on my phone?
That depends on the number of simultaneous connections your plan includes. Ask the team before watching on two screens at once.
